Jazz Stylings of Sondheim

Side by Side.jpg

On January 20th at 7pm I will be performing a concert of jazz arrangements of Steven Sondheim's music.  Here is all the info if you are interested in coming.  I am particularly excited about this for a couple of reasons.

First, playing with Tommy Cecil and Bill Mays is a huge honor for me.  Both of these guys are absolute master musicians, and I can't wait to see how it feels to play with both of them.

Second, I have been in love with Bill and Tommy's duo album of Sondheim arrangements since Tommy first gave it to me a couple of years ago.  Getting to actually play this music will be profoundly gratifying for me.  Below is an example of me working out a drum part for their version of "Rich and Happy"

Lastly, because of this album I have started to explore Sondheim's remarkable music.  If you are interested in learning more about how Bill and Tommy adapted this music to a jazz format, please come to the pre-concert workshop, it will be fascinating.

Hope to see you all there!

The Intimate Ellington

The video above is a sample of my solo version of "Caravan".  It, as well as other stripped down versions of Ellington classics, will be the theme of my upcoming concert "The Intimate Ellington".  I'm thrilled about the music and the band which will feature:

Chuck Redd- Vibes

Brad Linde- Saxophone

Josh Walker- Guitar

Regan Brough- Bass
